PINEVILLE AREA

The area north of the Red River has been able to attract new business and has experienced growth in existing business.

SOUTH ALEXANDRIA

The area around the Alexandria Mall and South MacArthur Drive continues to flourish with 2 new restaurants, a new strip center and several free-standing projects under construction. The opening of streets leading directly from I-49 into this shopping district has made it attractive for expanding businesses, as well. CISCO Academy accepted students for the first time at the Louisiana Technical College Alexandria Campus in May 2001.

THE PORT OF ALEXANDRIA

The Port of Alexandria has been rapidly expanding since its opening. Military equipment used in training at Fort Polk regularly passes through.

New facilities recently added include:

Bulk Container and Warehouse Facility
JD Steel
Tri-State Industries

NORTH ALEXANDRIA

This region includes the gem of the area - England Industrial AirPark & Community. Aside from aviation related businesses, the AirPark has attracted a clinic, a childcare facility, a computer manufacturing business, and retirement village. Two new golf courses opened in 2002. The Lakes District will offer residential lots and commercial opportunities. Tunk's expanded its patio area to accomodate more guests.


NORTHERN RAPIDES, SOUTH GRANT AND NATCHITOCHES PARISHES

This area has seen growth primarily in manufacturing and distribution. Two new wood processing plants were opened. The Jordache-Ditto plant, facing closure, was transformed into a national distribution center, expanding its Grant Parish employment. This area has also seen a significant growth in residential development.

OTHER REGIONAL ECONOMIC ACTIVITY

  • Trus Joist Laminated Beam Plant, new facility at Natchitoches, LA

  • Artcrete, Natchitoches, LA, a firm specializing in textured concrete technologies, is expanding to include international operations.

  • CSR Hydro Conduit began production at their new $7MM port facility.

  • Thunder Valley Speedway (dirt track) at Glenmora, LA has become the only NASCAR sanctioned track in Louisiana. Future plans include the addition of an asphalt track.

  • Pollock Federal Prison began receiving occupants in October 200. A maximum security facility has been approved adjacent to the 2 existing facilities and will house 1,100 inmates. This facility is scheduled to open in 2006.

  • Industrial Zeolite Plant, began production in 2002 at Meeker, LA and is utilizing truck and rail to transport both raw materials and finished products.
