National Geographic has tapped Alexandria as one of two Louisiana cities among the top 100 "Best Adventure Towns" in the country.

The transfer of the final piece of what was England Air Force Base to the England Authority was commemorated in a ceremony at Alexandria International Airport on Thursday.

Central Louisiana put its signature on an important document this week -- gladly -- to restate its support for Fort Polk and the significant role the Army post plays in the region and in the nation's military strategy.

Fort Polk's commanding general says the base needs unflagging community support to meet his goal of being "the best hometown in the Army."
