A new effort by the Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce aims to encourage the growth of new community leaders from people in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

Pody died Sunday at age 72 after battling cancer for several years. More than 200 people attended a memorial service for him Wednesday morning at Calvary Baptist Church in Alexandria. He was buried in Dubach on Wednesday afternoon.

Any meaningful discussion about economic development in Central Louisiana includes the talking points, insight and best guesses of Elton C. Pody, the longtime president of the region's Chamber of Commerce who died Sunday.

Elton Pody was remembered by local business and civic leaders Monday for his leadership, personal touch, passionate advocacy for Central Louisiana and spirit in fighting cancer for years.
