Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce, Alexandria, Louisiana, Sep 30, 2010 -- October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). For the seventh year in a row, job fairs targeting this valuable employment resource are being held statewide. The fairs are being coordinated by Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, sponsored by the Medicaid Purchase Plan and conduced with the support of numerous local agencies, groups, businesses, and area chambers.
The Central Louisiana Chamber of Commerce is one the sponsors of this year's Central Louisiana fair, which will be held Wednesday, October 13 from 9:30am - 12:30pm. The event will take place at Emmanuel Baptist Church located at 430 Jackson Street in Alexandria.
The fair is open to the public, but the focus of those local employers setting up booths is that job-ready persons with disAbilities will be attending and seeking employment opportunities from numerous employers all in one location.
People with disAbilities are our largest minority and also our largest number of under-employed. Louisiana is home to 400,000 disAbled persons of working age, 275,000 of which are unemployed and seeking productive jobs.
